Normally, when we’re talking about the North Carolina Tar Heels, the topic is college basketball betting. Not this year. While the basketball program is on the heels – pun intended – of a down year, the football program is the on upswing. If you still think that the Tar Heels are still the laughing stock of the ACC, you are in for a rude awakening.
In a number of recent 2011 NFL mock drafts, the Tar Heels are shown as having seven of the top 150 prospects. Clearly, this team has plenty of high-level talent – something that it desperately lacked before. Betting fans have seen Butch Davis do a 180 with this program and now they are ready to make a run at an ACC title.
The Tar Heels have 19 starters returning, which is an incredible number regarding consistency. Especially on defense, this unit could be the best in the country. Last year, this unit ranked sixth in the nation and are expected to improve.
College football betting cappers should take notice of their secondary, which includes an experienced starting unit of Kendric Burney, Charles Brown, Deunta Williams and Da’Norris Searcy that have combined for 28 career interceptions. Up front, defensive end Robert Quinn is the leader but he’s just one of many studs.
