2010 World Cup Betting: U.S. Goalkeeper Injures Ribs

The U.S. World Cup soccer team pulled an upset of sorts Saturday, finishing its opener against England in a 1-1 draw.

The win may have come at a price however as U.S. goalie Tim Howard suffered a rib injury when he and English forward Emile Heskey collided with one another near the 30-minute mark of the two teams’ World Cup opener.

According to an ESPN report, U.S. bench boss Bob Bradley isn’t sure if his goalkeeper broke his ribs on the play.

“He’ll be evaluated later [Sunday] and then a decision will be made as to whether he’ll need further tests,” Bradley told ESPN on June 13.

“Obviously he was sore — did a great job of taking a tough hit, and staying in it and playing really well. But we’ll assess him later [Sunday] and figure out then what we need to do from there.”

The coach didn’t specify if Howard would play in the team’s next game against Slovenia, which takes place on Friday.
