Brazil vs Chile Preview
A Selecao has found life difficult against the opponents in the group stage of the Korea DPR and Portugal, struggling to find a way through a solid defensive barrier on both occasions.
Brazil cost them the election of their attackers in dangerous positions, and endured much frustration. This is not a problem that is likely to find repeated against Chile, however, that the exuberance Bielsa is unlikely to settle for the ball against the conservative attack.
La Roja need to keep things tight in his back. With the likes of Robinho, Kaka and Luis Fabiano sniff holes, Chile would require levels of commitment and organization, similar to those they displayed against Spain, when reduced to ten men as they were able to take European masters at bay - with exception of two mistakes that cost goals.
They still must cope without Marco Estrada sent off against Spain, and suspended duo Waldo Ponce and Gary Medel, while Brazil could be without the services of injured pair Felipe Melo and Julio Baptista.
Players to watch: Kaka (BRA) vs Jorge Valdivia (CHI)
Meet: Brazil and Chile have crossed twice this level in the semi-finals in Chile in 1962 and within Round 16 at France 1998. Canarinho dominated both matches, scoring four goals to win 4-2 and 4-1 - omen, perhaps, feast of attacking football and Ellis Park Stadium.
