Maria Sharapova vs Julia Goerges WTA Strasbourg Quarterfinal Suspended due to Rain, Maria Sharapova will have to wait until Friday in her attempt to reach the semifinals, as her quarterfinal bout was suspended because of rain Thursday at the $220,000 Strasbourg International, a final clay-court French Open tune-up.


The three-time major champion and former world No. 1 Sharapova was leading German Julia Goerges 3-2 in the first set on Thursday when play was called. And fifth-seeded Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues was ahead of Swede Sofia Arvidsson 6-2 when rain forced those two off the court.

In other Day-4 quarterfinal play on the red clay here, German Kristina Barrois bounced seventh-seeded Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-1, 7-5 and American Vania King vaulted past Aussie Anastasia Rodionova 6-4, 7-5. King will battle Barrois in one of Friday's semis.

This week's champion will collect $37,000.
