Political Props: 2012 President Betting

While the 2012 Presidential election is still a long way off, Sports Betting features a great political prop on the next federal election, happening November, 2012. Surely President Barack Obama is the favorite, but there are a variety of candidates – both Republicans and Democrats.

Sports Betting lists Obama as a 2/3 favorite to win the 2012 Presidential election. Despite the fact that Obama has faced strong opposition to his healthcare policy and some of his other initiatives. It’s hard to forsee the Democratic Party not making Obama their nominee in 2012, regardless of how bleek the polls are in a couple of years.

Leading the rest of the field in this political prop are Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin, the leading candidates thus far for the GOP. Romney was the driving force behind securing the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics and is the former Governor of Massachusets. Romney also finished runner-up to John McCain for the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination. He is known as a solid financial candidate and many thought he was ideal to lead the country during tough economic times.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin was McCain’s Vice-Presidential nominee in 2008 and has a strong following, particularly from the far right. Palin has not talked about her political future and is currently making a lot of money as a speaker. She’s a very polarizing character, even in her own party. The jury’s still out on whether or not she will decide to run in 2012.

Another interesting politician with political prop odds of 12/1 is evangelical candidate Mike Huckabee. The former Arkansas Governor is seen as a man with great integrity and credibility. Again, much like Palin, he’s essentially got the backing of only a segment of the Republican Party. So, he’s anything but a lock to represnt the GOP.

While Sports Betting features odds on several other recognizable candidates, such as Ron Paul (40/1) and Al Gore (20/1), the smart money is that Obama will head towards a second term in the White House. Should the economy turn around relatively soon and the country avoids any major domestic or foreign catastrophies, Obama should be able to stay in power. That said, watch what happens in the various elections this fall, as it could help determine Obama’s chance for President in 2012.
