It is hoped that elder statesman Nelson Mandela will attend, at least briefly, but he will definitely be heard as part of one of his speeches is in a song recorded by South African opera singer Siphiwo Ntshebe. The song is called “Hope” which was recorded by Ntshetbe last month and he was due to perform it at the ceremony. However tragically he died last month aged only 35 from meningitis, but as a tribute to him the song will still be played at the ceremony.

The opening ceremony will also feature popular RnB star R Kelly along with the Soweto Spiritual Singers.
