NFL Week 1 Betting Already – Viking vs Saints

Yes, we know it’s only June. But aren’t you ready for the NFL to resume? When last we left off, the Saints polished off their storybook NFL betting season by defeating the Colts in the Super Bowl.It was the franchise’s first ever NFL championship and one that will make them targets during the 2010 football betting season. Sports Betting already has your NFL odds for Week 1’s Viking-Saints spread matchup.

Coming into this season, the Saints appear pretty set. They didn’t lose any key contributors to their championship run and now have valuable experience under their belts. Drew Brees is still the team leader and even veteran safety Darren Sharper has decided to return for another season. It all sounds perfect, right? It would seem so.

As for the Vikings, they too have almost everything in place, except for a starting quarterback. The annual saga that is Brett Favre’s retirement decision still looms over the franchise. The consensus opinion is that the veteran QB will return for another NFL betting season. If so, he will have lofty expectations to live up to. Minnesota had a banner year offensively and with Favre in the lineup would be expected to compete for the Lombardi trophy.

Sports Betting has the home team Vikings favored in this September 9th season-opening game at -4.5. The Super Bowl champs are not being given a whole lot of respect, with conventional thinking perhaps that it’s harder to stay on top than to climb there in the first place.

It would appear the NFL betting total might be a little low for this Week 1 matchup, with the over/under currently set at 51.5. Based on how these two teams can chuck it downfield, you would think it’s a wise move to jump on the over now.
However, Favre has not yet confirmed his return this season. And until he does, it’s difficult to think of any of Favre’s backups as being prolific enough to bet heavy on the over.

Then again, the way the Saints threw last season, they could hit the over all on their own.
